Santa Colomba de Sanabria is a picturesque village located in the municipality of Cobreros, in the province of Zamora, within the autonomous community of Castile and León. Middle Ages
#

The history of Santa Colomba de Sanabria dates back to the 10th century, during the repopulation carried out by the kings of León, such as Alfonso III of Asturias. Founded alongside other villages like San Miguel and San Román, it served as a refuge for Christians fleeing Muslim territories. The first written reference to Santa Colomba dates back to November 11, 1171, when Pedro Pérez donated lands to the Monastery of San Martín de Castañeda.

Modern Age

In the 1591 census, under the reign of Philip II, Santa Colomba had 67 neighbors, with a high proportion of hidalgos (71%). The parish church dedicated to Santa Colomba was built in the 17th century, undergoing various renovations over the years. In 1746, the entrance arches were added, and in 1772, further improvements were made.

Contemporary Age

In 1833, Santa Colomba was incorporated into the province of Zamora, and in 1850, it became part of the municipality of Cobreros. The village, which currently has around 80 inhabitants, has seen significant improvements in infrastructure and services throughout the 20th century, such as the arrival of electricity in 1955 and the paving of roads in 1970.
