Pedrazales is a town in the municipality of Galende, in the province of Zamora, within the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. Located in the Sanabria region, Pedrazales is known for its traditional architecture and natural surroundings, being a perfect destination for those seeking tranquility and nature.
History #
During the Middle Ages, Pedrazales was part of the Kingdom of León, and was repopulated as part of the Leonian repopulation process in Sanabria. After the independence of Portugal from the Kingdom of León in 1143, the town suffered border conflicts between the two kingdoms, a situation that stabilized in the early 13th century. In the Modern Age, Pedrazales was integrated into the province of the Lands of the Count of Benavente, within the receivership of Sanabria. With the restructuring of provinces in 1833, Pedrazales became part of the province of Zamora, in the Leon Region, and was integrated in 1834 into the judicial district of Puebla de Sanabria. Finally, around 1850, the former municipality of Pedrazales merged with that of Galende.
Heritage #
Pedrazales stands out for its preservation of traditional Sanabrian architecture. The parish church of Santa Eulalia is one of the most notable buildings, with its central nave worked in granite and stone, reflecting the traditional architecture of the region.
The Tera River #
The Tera River, which crosses the region, offers numerous bathing spots, perfect for enjoying a summer day. Near Pedrazales, about a 20-minute walk away, are the Pozo de la Piedra and the Pozo de Migallón. The Pozo de la Piedra is a quiet backwater with a rock in the center that serves as a natural springboard for children. The Pozo de Migallón is a bit wider, with calm and cool waters, surrounded by a wooded landscape ideal for a refreshing swim.

This hiking trail, about 3 km one-way, is a gentle climb that connects Pedrazales with Vigo de Sanabria, a picturesque village nestled in the mountains. The trail, surrounded by trees and vegetation, offers an immersive experience in nature. In some sections, the path becomes a natural gorge, with walls that envelop the hiker, showing the roots of the trees from a unique perspective.
