The Sotillo Waterfall is one of the most iconic destinations in the Sanabria Lake Natural Park. Located near the source of the Truchas River, these waterfalls offer a unique natural experience, combining the majesty of their waterfalls with a wooded environment full of life.

Access Route

The route to the Sotillo Waterfalls is one of the most popular and accessible in the park. It is a circular trail that not only takes visitors to the waterfalls, but also offers an additional section for those who wish to explore the Sotillo Lagoon. The walk to the waterfalls takes approximately three hours, while the complete tour to the lagoon adds another two hours.

Access to the Route
#

The starting point of this route is the picturesque village of Sotillo de Sanabria, accessible by road from El Puente. Upon arriving at Sotillo de Sanabria, you can park your car and follow the signs to the recreational area, where the route begins.

Description of the Route
#

From the recreational area, the trail starts by crossing a bridge and entering a path surrounded by oak and chestnut trees. The path is cobbled and uneven, with sections that may be wet, so it is advisable to wear appropriate footwear.

After about an hour of light but constant ascent, you reach a junction. Here, hikers can choose to go left towards the Sotillo Lagoon, or continue straight ahead to reach the waterfalls directly. The path to the lagoon offers stunning views of the waterfalls from the crags, before crossing a picturesque bridge over the Pingón stream, built with birch logs.

As you advance, the forest opens up to reveal a flat meadow where the stream flows in gentle meanders. From here, it is a comfortable walk to the Sotillo Lagoon, located at an altitude of 1,600 meters, a perfect place to rest and enjoy the scenery.

After visiting the lagoon, the return path takes hikers to the junction, from where they can continue towards the waterfall. A viewpoint offers spectacular views of the successive waterfalls that make up the Sotillo Waterfall. The impressive waterfall, surrounded by lush deciduous vegetation, is a natural spectacle that captures the wild and pristine essence of Sanabria.
